If you’re an avid golfer like me, then you very well know that finding a golf ball that strikes the right balance between performance and affordability is a never-ending, daunting task. The Pro V1 and Pro V1x have dominated this space for years as the gold standard with a very high price tag. This led me to explore alternatives, and that’s how I came across the Vice Pro Plus golf ball. In this review, I’ll share my experience with the Vice Pro Plus after extensive testing on the green.
Verdit
The Vice Pro Plus is a fantastic alternative to high-cost premium golf balls, offering performance, durability, and feel at a fraction of the price. Ideal for all golfers like mid to high-level golfers.
Reasons to Buy
- Exceptional Value
- Great Distance and Control
- Impressive Spin and Feel
- Durable Urethane Cover
Reasons to Avoid
- Slightly Lower Greenside Spin
Feel and Spin Around the Greens
One of the first tests I do with any golf ball is its performance around the green. Putting and chipping with the Vice Pro Plus was a pleasure for me; it has a softer feel than I expected. Still, it offers a subtle firmness that provides excellent feedback. This balance made it easy to judge distances and control my short game, even in tricky conditions.
Regarding spin, the Vice Pro Plus held up remarkably well. It produced enough spin on wedge shots to give me confidence on approach shots. I could see the ball checking up on the greens effectively.
Distance and Control Off the Tee
I look for distance and ball speed consistency when testing with my driver to control my drives. The Vice Pro Plus performed exceptionally well here, reaching an impressive ball speed of 161 mph, averaging around 280 yards. It’s right on par with other premium golf balls, and the fact that it delivers these metrics at a fraction of the price is very appealing.
In addition, I noticed the ball’s trajectory was slightly lower. It was giving a piercing flight that cut through the wind. This might be beneficial for golfers who struggle with ballooning shots. The lower flight path also translated to extra roll upon landing, adding extra distance.
Durability Test
Durability is critical for me when choosing a golf ball. It becomes more important when discussing premium or near-premium prices. To test this, I quickly hit several bunker and wedge shots. Surprisingly, the Vice Pro Plus held up better than I anticipated. There were minimal scuffs after numerous shots. The cover also didn’t show signs of peeling, which is a common issue with lower-cost golf balls. I found a minor scuff on the logo after some rough bunker play, which is barely noticeable and didn’t impact performance. In many aspects, I’d say the Vice Pro Plus rivals the Pro V1 in durability.
Inside Look – Construction
The Vice Pro Plus has a four-piece construction, like the usual premium balls. The inner core is vibrant green, surrounded by black and a transparent outer layer. This four-layer design has a great impact on balancing distance and spin across different clubs.
The thin cast urethane cover of the ball provides a smooth feel around the greens and gives it the “stick to the green” quality that golfers love. It helps golfers to calculate and evaluate the shot to reach the ball into the hole. The urethane properties resist the ball from yellowing, keeping the ball pearly white for longer. Though this is a very small detail, I do appreciate it.
Cost-Effectiveness: Value vs. Performance
Let’s talk about the pricing. As Vice keeps its supply chain short by following a direct-to-consumer model, it can keep the price lower than other brands. I purchased my Vice Pro Plus balls for around $35 per dozen on Amazon, where Pro V1 or Pro V1x costs from $50-$55. If you’re a golfer like me who tends to lose a few balls during a round, this cost savings is a game-changer for you.
If you buy in bulk (like three or more dozen), you can get the balls at an even lower price per dozen. Considering the quality and the savings, the Vice Pro Plus offers incredible value compared to some of the high-priced premium brands in golf.
Final Verdict: Who Should Use the Vice Pro Plus?
Are Vice golf balls worth trying? I would say, absolutely. The Vice Pro Plus is a top contender among all premium golf ball brands that perform consistently in every aspect—distance, feel, spin, and durability. Vice golf balls are also friendly to your budget. So, it’s ideal for mid to high-level golfers who want to invest in a ball that keeps up with premium options.
However, if you’re very picky about having maximum spin on greenside shots, you might notice a slight difference compared to a Pro V1. Other than that, Vice golf balls offer tremendous performance and value. This makes it a solid choice for anyone ready to try something fresh without sacrificing quality.
